Interest-Based Personalisation

Also known as: Interest-Based Customization, Special Interest Embedding

A software design strategy in which content, visuals, or activities are customised to reflect a user's personal interests or preferences in order to increase engagement and motivation. In the context of autism and developmental disabilities, interest-based personalisation involves embedding images, themes, or references related to an individual's restricted or special interests into educational software, therapeutic tools, or games. This approach can use antecedent-based methods (embedding the interest directly into the task) or consequent-based methods (offering the interest as a reward). Effective implementations allow non-technical users such as parents or teachers to customise content quickly, recognising that interests may change frequently.
