Haptic User Interface

Also known as: Haptic UI, Haptic Interface

A user interface that communicates information through the sense of touch, enabling users to interact with virtual or digital objects by feeling their physical properties such as shape, texture, weight, temperature, and vibration. Haptic user interfaces typically employ specialized hardware devices — such as force-feedback joysticks, styluses, gloves, or vibrotactile displays — that apply controlled forces or vibrations to the user's hands or body. In accessibility contexts, haptic interfaces are particularly valuable for people with visual impairments, providing a non-visual channel for understanding spatial relationships, scientific data, and other information traditionally conveyed through graphics and diagrams.
