Adaptive Musical Instrument
Also known as: Accessible Musical Instrument, Adapted Instrument
A musical instrument that has been modified or purpose-built to enable people with disabilities to play music. Adaptive musical instruments may use alternative input methods such as head movement, breath control, eye tracking, or switch access to replace or supplement traditional physical interactions like pressing keys or plucking strings. These instruments aim to preserve musical expressiveness and creative control while accommodating the player's physical abilities. They play an important role in music therapy, creative expression, and quality of life for people with motor, cognitive, or sensory disabilities.
