Health Data Visualization
Also known as: Health Data Display, Patient Data Visualization
The presentation of personal health information — such as blood glucose levels, blood pressure readings, activity data, or medication schedules — in visual formats including graphs, charts, trend lines, and indicators designed to help patients understand and manage their health conditions. Effective health data visualization for older adults and people with chronic conditions requires careful consideration of display size, color contrast, data contextualization (showing whether readings are good or bad, not just raw numbers), and cognitive accessibility. Research has shown that presenting health data to patients can support self-management of chronic conditions, but design must account for concerns including health anxiety (obsessing over readings), privacy (who else can see the data), and varying levels of health literacy and data interpretation ability.
