Route Planning
Also known as: Journey Planning, Pre-Journey Planning
The process of determining a path from an origin to a destination before travel begins, including selecting roads or paths, identifying landmarks and decision points, and considering factors such as safety, accessibility, and personal preferences. For blind and visually impaired travellers, accessible route planning is particularly important because it allows them to build a mental map of an area before visiting it, reducing uncertainty and increasing confidence during travel. Accessible route planning tools provide non-visual information about routes including street names, distances, hazards, public transport options, and points of interest, often through speech output or braille.
