Intermedia
Also known as: Intermedia Representation
Intermedia refers to a framework for information representation that supports diverse, adaptable, and flexible presentation modes, allowing the same content to be accessed through multiple alternative forms suited to individual needs and capabilities. Unlike multimedia (which combines different media types in a single presentation), intermedia emphasizes the transformability of information between modalities — for example, presenting the same data visually, auditorily, or tactilely depending on the user's abilities and preferences. The concept is central to accessible computing, where information must be available in alternative formats to accommodate users with different sensory, cognitive, and motor capabilities.
