Rheumatoid Arthritis

Also known as: RA

A chronic autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation, pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints, particularly in the hands, wrists, and fingers. Rheumatoid arthritis can significantly affect a person's ability to use computers by reducing grip strength, limiting finger dexterity, causing pain when pressing keys, and restricting range of motion. Accessibility accommodations may include ergonomic keyboards, voice input, keyboard accessibility features such as Sticky Keys, and adaptive pointing devices that require less fine motor control.
