Restricted Field of View
Also known as: Tunnel Vision, Peripheral Vision Loss, Visual Field Loss
A condition in which the area of the visual environment that a person can see at any given moment is significantly reduced, often described as looking through a tunnel or a narrow tube. Restricted field of view can result from conditions such as glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, or stroke-related visual field cuts. In computer use, restricted field of view means the mouse pointer and interface elements frequently fall outside the user's visible area, making it easy to lose track of the cursor and difficult to perceive the relationship between distant screen elements. Unlike reduced visual acuity, which affects the ability to see fine detail, restricted field of view affects spatial awareness and the ability to monitor multiple screen locations simultaneously.
