Spasm

Also known as: Muscle Spasm, Spasticity

A sudden, involuntary contraction of a muscle or group of muscles that can cause uncontrolled movement or a temporary inability to move. Spasms are common in conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, and multiple sclerosis. In the context of computer accessibility, spasms can cause unintended key presses, mouse clicks, or pointer movements, and they may interrupt ongoing interactions. Assistive technology strategies to accommodate spasms include input filtering (ignoring brief unintended activations), sticky keys, adjustable key repeat delays, and the ability to undo accidental inputs easily.
