Morse Code

Also known as: Morse Code Input

A communication system that encodes text characters as sequences of short signals (dots) and long signals (dashes). Originally developed for telegraphy, Morse code has found significant application in assistive technology as an alternative text input method for people with severe motor disabilities. Because it requires only one or two switches (one for dots, one for dashes, or a single timed switch), Morse code can be operated by almost any controllable movement — a finger press, head nod, eye blink, sip-and-puff, or even brain signals. Experienced Morse code users can achieve practical text entry speeds, making it a viable communication method for people who cannot use conventional keyboards.
