Tutoring System
Also known as: Intelligent Tutoring System, ITS, Computer-Based Tutor
Software that provides personalised instruction and feedback to learners, adapting its responses based on the learner's performance, knowledge level, and error patterns. In accessibility contexts, tutoring systems can be designed to support learners with disabilities by modelling their interactions through appropriate sensory channels — for example, providing spatial audio feedback for blind learners or visual speech representations for deaf learners. Effective accessible tutoring systems maintain internal models of both the learning content and the student's understanding, enabling them to deliver targeted feedback through the learner's strongest modalities.
