User Sensitive Inclusive Design
Also known as: USID
A design methodology proposed as an alternative to User Centred Design for populations with highly diverse and dynamically changing needs, particularly older people. User Sensitive Inclusive Design replaces "centred" with "sensitive" to acknowledge that it may be impossible to find truly representative user groups when the target population spans an enormous range of capabilities, and replaces "universal" with "inclusive" to reflect the practical reality that designing for literally everyone may not be achievable. The methodology emphasises ethical sensitivity in research with vulnerable participants, the need for tailored and adaptive interfaces, and the importance of addressing the full range of user characteristics including confidence and conceptual understanding.
