Web Page Preview

Also known as: Page Preview, Link Target Preview

A summary or representation of a web page's content provided to users before they navigate to that page, allowing them to assess its relevance without committing to a full visit. For sighted users, visual previews like thumbnails or pop-up snippets serve this purpose. For screen reader users, audio previews that speak key information about the destination page — title, content type, statistics, and highlights — are essential because following a link and exploring the resulting page linearly is far more time-consuming than visual scanning. Effective web page previews act as surrogates that help users discriminate between useful and irrelevant links during browsing.
