Speech-Based Cursor Movement
Also known as: Voice-Controlled Cursor, Voice Cursor Control
A technique for moving the on-screen cursor using voice commands rather than physical manipulation of a pointing device. Speech-based cursor movement systems typically use one of two approaches: discrete specification, where the user speaks a command to jump the cursor to a specific area (such as a grid cell number), or continuous specification, where the user issues direction and speed commands and the cursor moves until stopped. Both approaches involve tradeoffs between speed and accuracy. These systems are essential for computer users with physical disabilities that prevent them from using a mouse, trackball, or other manual pointing device.
