Reminder System

Also known as: Prompting System, Cognitive Prosthetic

An assistive technology that provides timely cues, alerts, or step-by-step prompts to support task completion for people with memory or executive function difficulties. Reminder systems can range from simple timer-based alerts to sophisticated context-aware systems that track user progress and adapt prompts accordingly. They are commonly used to support people with traumatic brain injury, dementia, or intellectual disabilities in activities of daily living such as medication management, appointment keeping, and travel preparation. Effective reminder systems minimise cognitive load through simple interfaces and familiar delivery mechanisms.
