Universal Design Resources

Also known as: UDR, Design Guidelines

Documents, standards, guidelines, and educational materials created to help designers and developers implement universal design principles in their products and services. UDRs range from legally binding standards like Section 508 to voluntary best-practice guides and academic educational resources. Research has shown that many UDRs are not effectively designed for their target audience of designers, often failing to support practical design trade-offs, address the cognitive processes of the design workflow, or provide actionable guidance that integrates into existing development processes. Effective UDRs should be treated as products themselves, subject to user-centered design and usability evaluation with their intended audience.
