Browser Accessibility

Also known as: Accessible Browsing, Web Browser Accessibility

The degree to which web browsers themselves are usable by people with disabilities and age-related impairments, distinct from the accessibility of web content. Browser accessibility encompasses built-in features such as text zoom, high contrast modes, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and customizable toolbars, as well as the overall usability of browser interface elements like menus, tabs, settings dialogs, and address bars. Research has shown that standard browsers can present significant barriers to older adults and users with disabilities, prompting the development of specialized accessible browsers and browser extensions. Improving browser accessibility requires attention to both the browser's own user interface and its ability to render and interact with accessible web content correctly.
