Confirmation Message
Also known as: Positive Feedback, On-track Feedback, Progress Confirmation
A system message that reassures users they are performing a task correctly or are on the right path, as opposed to only providing error messages or corrective instructions. In assistive technology and cognitive accessibility, confirmation messages have been shown to be critically important for users with cognitive impairments, reducing anxiety and building confidence during task completion. Research on indoor wayfinding systems found that participants visibly relaxed and performed better when receiving regular confirmation that they were on the correct route. The principle extends to web and application design, where providing clear feedback that an action was successful (such as form submission confirmations or progress indicators) is particularly valuable for users with cognitive disabilities who may be uncertain whether their interactions had the intended effect.
