Universal Maths Conversion Library

Also known as: UMCL

An open-source programming library that encapsulates converters for different Braille mathematical codes, enabling applications to convert between MathML and various national Braille mathematical notations. UMCL supports multiple Braille math systems including Nemeth code (used in the US), Marburg notation (used in German-speaking countries), French Braille math notation, and others. The library addresses a key internationalisation challenge in mathematical accessibility: different countries use different Braille codes for mathematics, so a single conversion tool must support multiple notation systems to be globally useful.
