Mixed-Visual Group

Also known as: Mixed visual ability group, Mixed-visual ability group

A group whose members include both blind or low-vision and sighted participants. The term is used in accessibility research on group activities (museum tours, classrooms, family outings, workplace meetings) to focus on the specific accessibility challenges that arise when blind and sighted people share an experience that is conventionally designed around sight, including following a group leader, recognising who is speaking, taking turns, and accessing visual information at the same pace as sighted peers. Designing for mixed-visual groups goes beyond providing parallel accessible content — it requires mediating real-time social and spatial coordination so that blind members can participate as peers rather than as recipients of separate accommodations.
