Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response
Also known as: ASMR
A sensory tingling experience, typically in the scalp and upper spine, triggered by specific audio–visual stimuli such as whispering, soft tapping, or gentle hand movements. ASMR is associated with reduced heart rate and is used by many people — including neurodivergent individuals — as a sleep aid, anxiety-reduction tool, or self-regulation technique. ASMR-focused short-form video content is widely consumed on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, and raises accessibility considerations for people with misophonia, auditory processing differences, or sensory overstimulation.
