Colour Commentary
Also known as: Color Commentary, Colour commentator
In sports broadcasting, the analytical and contextual commentary provided alongside the play-by-play — offering opinions, background on players and teams, strategy discussion, and remarks during gameplay pauses. Colour commentary conveys information that is not visually present on screen and therefore carries proportionally more unique value for Deaf and Hard of Hearing viewers than play-by-play narration does. Some captioning research proposes showing colour commentary while omitting play-by-play to reduce caption load without sacrificing meaning.
