Pie Menu
Also known as: Radial Menu, Circular Menu
A pie menu is a circular or ring-shaped menu interface in which command options are arranged radially around a central point, allowing selection by moving the cursor or making a directional gesture toward the desired item. Unlike linear drop-down menus, pie menus leverage spatial memory and direction-based motor actions, enabling faster selection with practice because each option occupies a consistent angular position. Pie menus have been studied as an alternative input method with potential accessibility benefits, including larger target areas compared to linear menus. However, they require precise cursor movement on a two-dimensional plane, which can introduce motor errors for users with tremor or limited fine motor control, limiting their accessibility for some users.
