Blockchain
Also known as: Distributed Ledger, Distributed Ledger Technology, DLT
A blockchain is a distributed, append-only digital ledger in which records (blocks) are cryptographically linked and replicated across a decentralized network of nodes. No single party controls the data; once written, records are extremely difficult to alter. In accessibility contexts, blockchain technology is explored for secure internet voting (enabling transparent, auditable elections for remote or disabled voters), for managing digital identity credentials, and for decentralized governance platforms. Its transparency and verifiability properties can increase trust in digital systems, though it also introduces complexity that can create usability barriers.
