Digital Services Act

Also known as: DSA

A European Union regulation (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065) that governs online intermediaries and platforms, including social networks, online marketplaces, and content-sharing services. Among many provisions, the DSA prohibits online platforms from designing, organising, or operating interfaces that deceive or manipulate users or otherwise materially distort or impair users' ability to make free and informed decisions — language often invoked against dark patterns. For accessibility practitioners, the DSA intersects with WCAG compliance where deceptive designs also fail accessibility standards, offering a complementary enforcement route.
