STEAM

Also known as: STEAM education

An extension of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) educational framework that explicitly integrates the Arts (design, music, visual art, storytelling, humanities). STEAM is often used in informal and inclusive learning contexts, including makerspaces and libraries, to broaden participation — particularly for learners who connect more readily to creative or culturally grounded entry points — and to foreground interdisciplinary problem-solving. For accessibility practice, STEAM offers multiple modes of expression and engagement, aligning with Universal Design for Learning principles and supporting diverse neurodivergent learners.
