Microsoft Copilot
Also known as: Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot in Excel
Microsoft Copilot is a family of generative AI assistants integrated into Microsoft 365 applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, as well as GitHub and Windows. In Excel and Google Sheets-style workflows, Copilot lets users describe spreadsheet operations in natural language — generating formulas, creating charts, applying formatting, extracting trends, and summarizing data — rather than navigating menus or writing formulas manually. Copilot has accessibility implications in both directions: it can lower barriers for screen reader users who struggle with 2D spreadsheet grids, but its hallucinations and inconsistent visual output (missing charts, incorrect conditional formatting, truncated tables) shift verification burden onto blind users who may be least equipped to catch visual errors.
