ChatGPT
Also known as: GPT, OpenAI ChatGPT
ChatGPT is a conversational generative AI assistant developed by OpenAI, based on the GPT family of large language models. Users interact via a text chat interface and, in newer versions, through voice, image, and file upload. ChatGPT is widely used as an accessibility tool — for image descriptions, document summarization, code generation, and natural-language spreadsheet manipulation — and is one of the most common GenAI tools adopted by blind and low-vision users. Its accessibility strengths include broad screen reader support and voice input; known weaknesses include hallucinations on numeric and visual tasks, automatic read-out of responses that skips past reasoning controls, and inconsistent behavior across model versions (e.g., GPT-4o vs o4-mini reasoning models).
