Meta-Research

Also known as: Research on research, Metascience

The systematic study of research itself — the tools, workflows, norms, infrastructures, and institutional practices through which scholarly knowledge is produced, evaluated, and disseminated. Meta-research examines questions such as which methods and technologies researchers rely on, how those choices shape the kinds of knowledge that get produced, and who is included or excluded from knowledge production. In accessibility contexts, meta-research is used to surface how standard research tools and practices systematically disadvantage disabled researchers, reframing individual 'accommodation' problems as structural features of the research ecosystem that require community-level redesign.
