AgeTech
Also known as: Age tech, Technology for older adults
A broad category of technology designed to support older adults in aging well, living independently, and managing age-related health conditions. AgeTech spans smart-home monitoring, voice assistants, medication reminders, fall-detection wearables, social companion robots, telehealth platforms, and cognitive-decline screening tools. Inclusive AgeTech design must address age-related changes in vision, hearing, motor control, and cognition — as well as conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and related dementias — often requiring adaptive, ability-based systems rather than generic consumer products. Emerging research emphasizes the role of voice interfaces and AI-mediated interaction while flagging accessibility gaps, including reduced automatic speech recognition accuracy for older voices and speakers with cognitive impairment.
