Laser Cutter

Also known as: CO2 Laser Cutter

A digital fabrication machine that uses a focused laser beam to cut or engrave flat materials such as wood, acrylic, cardboard, leather, and some plastics. Along with 3D printers and CNC routers, laser cutters are a core tool in makerspaces and community fabrication labs, and they are used in DIY assistive technology for producing custom brackets, switch mounts, tactile graphics, adaptive utensil grips, and enclosure components. Laser cutters present accessibility challenges for some disabled makers (small visible flames, enclosed workspaces, and standing interfaces), and material limitations prevent use with food-contact or implantable devices.
