Networked digital platforms — including Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, LINE, WhatsApp, and similar services — that enable users to create, share, and discuss content with others. For accessibility, social media raises questions about platform-level support for assistive technology (alt text, captions, keyboard navigation), content-level authoring practices, and how disabled users, caregivers, and community health workers appropriate these platforms for peer support, information sharing, and coordinating care. In low- and middle-income contexts, widely-adopted platforms often outperform purpose-built health apps because they are already integrated into daily life.
