Intention Tremor

Also known as: Cerebellar Tremor, Action Tremor

A type of tremor that appears or worsens during voluntary, goal-directed movement — particularly as a limb approaches its target — and is typically absent at rest. Intention tremor is most often caused by damage to the cerebellum or its pathways (multiple sclerosis, stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebellar ataxia). For digital accessibility, intention tremor affects fine pointing and selection tasks: users may overshoot targets, struggle with small tap areas, and find drag-and-drop or precise cursor placement difficult. Design accommodations include larger touch targets, dwell-based selection, switch access, voice control, and stabilization features in input devices.
