Accessible Canada Act
Also known as: ACA, Canadian Accessibility Act
Canadian federal legislation (S.C. 2019, c. 10) that aims to make Canada barrier-free by 2040 by requiring federally regulated organisations (banks, telecommunications, transportation, the federal government) to identify, remove, and prevent barriers in areas including employment, the built environment, information and communication technologies, procurement, program and service delivery, and transportation. The ACA complements provincial regimes such as the AODA (Ontario) and enables accessibility standards development. It does not generally apply to provincially regulated sectors such as most universities and schools.
