Online Accessibility Act
Also known as: OAA, US Online Accessibility Act
A proposed US federal law (H.R. 1100, introduced in the 117th Congress) that would require consumer-facing websites and mobile apps of covered organisations to comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The OAA is intended to close an ambiguity in the existing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), under which courts have reached inconsistent conclusions about whether websites and apps are 'places of public accommodation'. The bill has not been enacted but is regularly cited in international accessibility policy discussions alongside the EU Accessibility Act and the Accessible Canada Act as part of the broader 2020s wave of digital-accessibility legislation.
