Interpretive Alt Text
Alt text that goes beyond objective, functional description to convey interpretive dimensions of an image such as mood, symbolism, narrative, and aesthetic effect. It is most relevant for images where meaning is carried by formal attributes (composition, color, lighting, gesture, style) rather than by propositional content, such as paintings, illustrations, photography, and other expressive media. Good interpretive alt text typically grounds inferences in observable cues and uses hedging language ("may suggest", "may evoke") to distinguish observation from interpretation, supporting accountable interpretive access for blind and low vision readers.
