Scrupulosity
Also known as: Moral OCD, Religious OCD
A subtype of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) characterized by obsessions about having violated moral, ethical, or religious standards — for example, fear of having sinned, of having been dishonest, or of unintentionally supporting something the person believes is wrong. Compulsions often take the form of mental review, confession, reassurance-seeking, or ritual observance. Scrupulosity is non-standardized as a clinical category but widely recognized by clinicians and by people with OCD as a meaningful grouping.
