Supported Employment
Also known as: SE
An approach to helping people with significant disabilities find and maintain competitive employment in integrated work settings, with ongoing support as needed. Unlike sheltered workshops or segregated employment, supported employment places individuals in regular workplaces alongside non-disabled coworkers. Support may include job coaching, assistive technology, workplace accommodations, and coordination with employers. The model emphasizes that with appropriate support, people with even significant disabilities can work productively in competitive employment.
