Employment Accessibility

Also known as: Workplace Accessibility, Job Accessibility, Accessible Employment

The broad concept of ensuring that all aspects of finding, applying for, interviewing for, and performing a job are accessible to people with disabilities. Employment accessibility encompasses accessible job postings, application systems, interview accommodations, pre-employment testing, onboarding processes, and ongoing workplace accommodations. Despite legal protections like the Americans with Disabilities Act, people with disabilities face a significantly higher unemployment rate than the general population, with estimates as high as 70% for people who are blind or visually impaired in the United States. Barriers exist at every stage of the employment pipeline, from inaccessible career fair environments to HR web portals that cannot be navigated with assistive technology.
