Ergonomic Keyboard

Also known as: Ergonomic Input Device

A keyboard designed to reduce physical stress, strain, and injury risk during typing by conforming to the natural posture and biomechanics of the hands, wrists, and arms. Ergonomic keyboard designs include split keyboards (angled halves to reduce ulnar deviation), tented keyboards (raised in the middle to reduce forearm pronation), contoured keyboards (with key wells matching finger lengths), and alternative form factors like dome-shaped or bowl-shaped devices. These designs aim to prevent or accommodate conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, repetitive strain injury, and other musculoskeletal disorders. For people with existing upper extremity disabilities, ergonomic keyboards can make typing possible or less painful by minimising wrist movement, reducing key force requirements, or supporting natural hand positions.
